I LOVED this book. Elissa's Quest (the first book in the series) was great, but the crew of the Swamp Maiden was so hilarious, especially Billy, the direction-impaired sailor. Favian was very, very cool as the former Count of Leonne. (Can't wait til he gets to use that sword.) Lots of adventure, lots of magic, great characters ... I'd recommend this book to anybody.

Wow! I think I liked this book even better than the first one. (But you have to read Elissa's Quest first, or you'll be lost - just like Elissa!) The crew of the Swamp Maiden was hilarious! And Elissa managed to save a very cool Count, rescue a Windsinger and find Maya (and Gertrude). I loved every word of it!

I bought both Elissa's Quest and Elissa's Odyssey for my daughter, and it's hard to tell which one of us loved them more. My daughter adored the talking animals (I thought they were pretty funny, too). And we both fell in love with the strong, brave heroine - Elissa. What I liked about this book is that Elissa is very moral. She doesn't do harm, but she manages to come out on top every time. Best of all, she's a GREEN heroine - very planet-friendly. I plan on buying the next book in the trilogy the minute it comes out, and I hope Verrillo keeps on writing! We need more books like this in the world.

I thought that this book was a wonderful piece of fiction. The imagery was captivating and the characters lively. It was faster paced than the first, and well worth checking out.

Elissa's Odyssey is everything a children's book should be - adventurous, clever and funny. I've read both Elissa's Quest and Elissa's Odyssey to my grand-daughter, who loved them. I found the books to be charming and completely appropriate for children of this age. (I am horrified at all the violence and sexual innuendo in children's books nowadays.) As an added bonus, the books are beautifully crafted. They remind me of the wonderfully written, innocent books of my own childhood I think the Phoenix Rising trilogy is bound to become a classic.

I am a HUGE fan of Elissa. I loved the first book, Elissa's Quest, and the second book is even better. Favian is a great addition - he's very cool and conceited. And Aesha is very mysterious. The story is exciting, Elissa gets lost and then manages to hitch a ride on the flimsy Swamp Maiden, where she meets Billy (a not too bright deckhand who has no sense of direction), Doc and Cappy. When she confronts a bloodthirsty gang of poachers in the jungle she realizes her powers are growing stronger (and not under her control). Should she use her powers, or not? What I like about both books is that Elissa is very realistic. She seems like a normal 13 or 14 year old. (But magical). I also like the way the story is told. Not everything is laid out for you. You have to use your brain. I'm very excited about the next book.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book (and the previous one). The humor is both subtle and slapstick, which is why it appealed to both my young daughter and me. I appreciated the tone of light irony. The plot is classic, but with enough variation to make it interesting. I'll definitely purchase the next book when it comes out, and I'd recommend it to any parent looking for a good book for for their child.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable fantasy. It had all the right elements - a great heroine, wonderful characters (especially the members of the Swamp Maiden), clever dialogue, and a romantic setting. The writing was vivid and poignant. It is clear that Verrillo has a profound love of nature, and I am happy she is willing to share it with us. All in all, Elissa's Odyssey is one of the best children's books out there. I'm looking forward to the next installment of Elissa's adventures.

I loved this book! The characters were great, the plot exciting, and all the details made for a really gripping story. The writing was also good, especially for the age group. (10-14). Middle schoolers will really enjoy this adventure!
